Under the Rainbow

Award-Winning Poem - May 18, 1991

I have a great love for The Wizard of Oz, as well as the title "Under the Rainbow". Another, more modern piece of mine also goes by this title. Here, my poem published in 1991 tells a different side of Dorothy's story after coming back from the land of color. This poem won a National contest and was published in a magazine called New Voices. I do not know if it is in any way related to the New Voices magazine published by the Jewish Student Press Service, and do not claim to have been published by that group.

Nevertheless, I earned the first-place prize of $100.00 and the publication of this work in that magazine at the time. I still love this poem. It was published under my at-that-time name, Lisa Mattox.

I hope you enjoy Dorothy's "other" side!
